About This Place

Nestled within the vibrant Carlsbad culinary scene, Beach Plum Kitchen offers an inviting breakfast experience that seamlessly blends classic comfort with inventive flair. This breakfast restaurant, located conveniently on El Camino Real, showcases a thoughtfully curated menu that caters to both traditionalists and adventurous palates alike.

Start your morning with the standout Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle, flawlessly crisped and accompanied by a luscious drizzle of maple syrup and whipped butter that melts into every bite. For those seeking a sweet start, the Strawberry Shortcake Pancakes deliver a delightfully fluffy texture layered with fresh, juicy strawberries and a touch of creaminess. From the savory side, the California Benedict redefines brunch elegance with perfectly poached eggs resting atop fresh avocado and other flavorful components. Meat lovers will be drawn to hearty mains like the New York Steak and Eggs or the Carnitas & Eggs, each dish bursting with richly satisfying flavors.

Health-conscious diners will appreciate lighter fare options like the homemade Pistachio-Apricot Granola—a beautifully balanced blend of oats, nuts, seeds, and honey-drizzled berries—offering a crisp, refreshing contrast to the richer dishes. The Quinoa & Coconut Porridge provides a warm, creamy bowl with fresh berry accents, perfect for a wholesome boost to your morning routine.

Beach Plum Kitchen also shines in its creative “Craft Your Own Omelet” offering, where guests select their favorite ingredients to personalize a generous three-egg omelet, served alongside breakfast potatoes or fresh fruit and your choice of house-baked coffee cake, muffin, or fresh bread.

The ambiance of Beach Plum Kitchen complements its culinary creations perfectly. Whether you choose to sit indoors or enjoy the California sunshine on the outdoor patio, the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. Friendly, attentive service—often praised by patrons like Teena Malicsi for its genuine warmth—elevates the overall experience, making every visit feel special and well cared for.

Regular guests, such as MaryAlexandra, cherish the diversity of the menu and the standout homemade jams that add a sweet, artisanal touch. Jamie’s enthusiastic nod to the value and quality of the steak and eggs alongside their excellent coffee cake underscores the kitchen's ability to deliver consistent satisfaction. While a few diners have noted opportunities for improvement, particularly in certain dishes or service moments, the overall sentiment is that Beach Plum Kitchen is a reliable destination for a fulfilling, thoughtfully prepared breakfast.

Whether you’re treating yourself to a leisurely weekend brunch or grabbing a nourishing start to a busy day, Beach Plum Kitchen offers a deliciously varied menu and a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to savor every bite.

I really enjoy this hidden gem. Whether inside or outside, the experience is nice. I've never had to wait to be seated. There are an abundance of options for breakfast, some traditional and some not as much. Their homemade jams are amazing. They have a selection of great tasting alternative sausage and bacon. I typically have a hard time finding a turkey or chicken bacon or sausage I like at a restaurant, but theirs are good. I love the quinoa porridge. The specialty coffees are hit and miss for me. Often a bit on the sweeter side. Love this place. It's one of my favorite low key little breakfast spots.

Steak and eggs were really well priced for what you get and the quality. Coffee cake was also a great addition. Great coffee as well. Well worth a visit for breakfast if you feel like splurging occasionally

We enjoyed two good meals, the Miga chorizo was so much better than the carnitas, which missed the flavor and warmth mark. Try the gluten free muffin for an added bread, it was soft but lacked flavor. A dirty chai is a nice way to get the meal started, very good flavor and just right. Our service was excellent, well done.

The breakfast burrito was solid — one of the better ones I’ve had lately. The French toast, not so much… still soggy and undercooked. But the real letdown was the service. We sat forever before anyone brought water or coffee, and once our food arrived, it was radio silence. No check-in, no refills, no chance to ask for extra salsa. Meanwhile, half the staff looked like they were on a break at a family BBQ — just hanging out in groups, chatting it up while we sat there trying to flag someone down. Customer service clearly wasn’t on the menu.

When I entered the restaurant, the staff greeted me warmly with friendly smiles, making me feel welcome immediately. My server, Omar, distinguished himself with his respectful demeanor and genuine willingness to accommodate my requests. For breakfast, I chose the Southwestern Bowl, which was packed with nutritious ingredients and bursting with flavor, making it a healthy way to start my day. I also treated myself to a delightful, fluffy, and sweet Lemon Ricotta Pancake. The atmosphere was inviting, and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal while sharing the experience with my furry friend, Moana. To top it off, I loved the Motown music playing today; it really added to the great vibes.

FABULOUS SERVICE ! My wife and I moved house to La Jolla recently after 3 years up in Orange County. Trust me there are only a couple of brekkie places in California that we rate as good as Beach Plum Kitchen. We first discovered this terrific brekkie spot about 7 years ago and have been here countless times since up until covid wreaked havoc on many eateries particularly the ones with mostly indoor dining. So after 3 years away we decided to come here for breakfast early on Sunday...they open at 7.30am. Remembering how busy it can get early on Sunday mornings I put us on the WAITLIST via Yelp. We parked out front at 7.35am and walked straight inside to be greeted by Ruben the manager who showed us to a table booth. Surprisingly we were among the first to arrive. No familiar faces in sight....Grant and Jenny the co-owners come in later we were told. A server named Hannah came to help us. FIRST UP ! We asked for 2 Lattes with 2% milk & hazelnut syrup but please not those huge cups we remember from years ago. Hannah said they could be made in much smaller cappuccino cups....yes thank you. The very first time we had breakfast here I ordered Machaca Hash with Hard Poached Eggs, Angel Biscuit & Strawberry Basil Jam and my wife chose Carnitas with Scrambled Eggs. THINGS HAVE CHANGED ! No more house braised Machaca on the menu and it's now Carnitas Hash instead of Carnitas with Scrambled Eggs. Of course my wife ordered the Carnitas Hash and I eventually decided on Traditional Eggs Benedict..hard poached eggs with Breakfast Potatoes. I also asked for a side of Fresh Fruit Medley and a tall fresh squeezed orange juice. Our lattes in the smaller cappuccino cups were brought out by Arista the sweet barista and tasted as good as the old days. Not long after our breakfast dishes arrived courtesy of server Jenessa....my eggs were hard poached to my satisfaction. My fresh squeezed orange juice tasted very good...Hannah did explain it is brought in. My wife liked her Carnitas Hash but nowhere near as much as when it was Carnitas with Scrambled Eggs....this was a lower budget presentation. The fresh fruit medley tasted okay. Things looked a little busier when it was time leave....that was good to see. THIS IS STILL A VERY GOOD BREKKIE SPOT !

Great experience. Normally there is a wait to get a seat, but not today. We ordered the Chilaquiles, 2 egg breakfast, chicken biscuits and gravy, Salted Brown Sugar Bliss. Wasn't a fan of the Chilaquiles, although normally that's my go to at restaurants. Loved the Chicken biscuits and gravy. The salted brown sugar Bliss was wonderful and I would order it again.
